DSMC2/RANGER - Wireless Monitoring with RED Cameras

Using a third-party wireless monitoring system that is powered from a source external from the camera itself might damage your camera.

Some of the transmitters for wireless monitoring systems require ~7-17V unregulated input voltage.  When this power comes from an external source - such as a third-party battery or battery plate - the HDMI and 3G-SDI output connectors on the camera BRAIN or DSMC2 expanders/modules can be damaged.

RED recommends that you avoid using wireless monitoring systems powered by external sources with your camera and expanders/modules.

The following devices offer a USB Power output connector and are intended for use with accessories requiring additional power, such as wireless transmitters:

  • DSMC2 REDVOLT Expander
  • DSMC2 V-Lock I/O Expander
  • DSMC2 Jetpack Expander
  • DSMC2 Production Module

For more information, download the corresponding operation guide for your camera.

If you experience issues monitoring out of your RED camera, save a log file and submit a Support ticket.
