The Transfer of Ownership program protects a new camera owner’s investment if purchasing a RED® camera by means other than directly from RED*. The new owner must have an active RED account or must register with RED by creating an account before transferring ownership of a RED camera. 

*DISCLAIMER: If purchasing from another party other than RED or a RED Authorized Dealer, RED recommends checking the serial number with Product Support before completing the purchase. RED is not able to service or support any camera that has been reported as stolen.

The Transfer of Ownership program is only available from RED and is limited to one re-certification per customer upon a change of ownership. Cameras that are not possessed by the registered owner may be sent to RED to complete the Transfer of Ownership program in accordance with RED’s Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) policy. RED offers the following options:

Option 1: Transfer of Ownership Only

RED transfers camera ownership to the new owner free-of-charge.

The benefits of the Transfer of Ownership program include:

  • Registered ownership of the product on your RED account giving you ultimate control of service and technical support
  • Eligibility for upgrade program opportunities associated with the product
  • Any available Standard/Extended Warranty transferred to new owner
  • DSMC2 and RANGER eligible to purchase RED Extended Warranty (if only Standard Warranty is still applied to the camera)

 

Option 2: Transfer of Ownership and Re-Certified Warranty

This option is available for DSMC2 camera models only: RED transfers camera ownership to the new owner and provides a Re-Certified 90-day warranty for the cost of $500*. This requires that the camera returns to RED for a full inspection for the cost of $100.

*This option is recommended for available DSMC2 camera models that no longer have any transferable Standard/Extended Warranty left.

*Cameras not eligible for warranty re-certification with a Transfer of Ownership include the RED ONE models, EPIC and SCARLET MYSTERIUM-X models, and EPIC and SCARLET DRAGON models.

RED performs a full evaluation to determine the camera meets RED factory specification. RED provides a service quote for any repairs and the $100 evaluation fee is applied to the cost of the repairs if greater than the $100 fee. Upon completion of the transfer and evaluation, the 90-day RED Re-Certified Product Warranty is applied to the camera.

You are responsible for shipping to and from RED. RED recommends that you use a traceable and insurable carrier when shipping to RED. 

As part of the Transfer of Ownership and Re-Certified Warranty program, you receive the following exclusive benefits:

  • Registered ownership of the product on your RED account giving you ultimate control of service and technical support
  • Eligibility for upgrade program opportunities associated with the product
  • Rigorous evaluation and factory-refurbishment process to ensure the camera meets product performance specifications
  • 90 day RED Re-Certified Product Warranty
  • DSMC2 and RANGER eligible to purchase RED Extended Warranty

 

Warranty Transfers

The Standard Warranty, and any applicable Extended Warranty, is transferable to new owners.

If there is no active warranty, the camera* may be eligible for a 90-day RED Re-Certified Product Warranty for an additional cost upon completion of the Transfer of Ownership program.

*Cameras not eligible for warranty re-certification with a Transfer of Ownership include the RED ONE models, EPIC and SCARLET MYSTERIUM-X models, and EPIC and SCARLET DRAGON models.

  

Request a Transfer of Ownership

The current registered owner (PRIMARY account holder) of the camera or the new purchaser* can initiate the Transfer of Ownership process by submitting a request.

The current registered owner (PRIMARY account holder) of the camera is permitted to authorize a transfer of ownership or can permit an ADMIN contact on the account to authorize the transfer.

*The new purchaser may also request to register the camera when logged in to RED.com (visit www.red.com/product-registration). Go to Registered Products, and follow the link in "Click here to register a new product."

Shipping Locations

Once you have been issued a Transfer of Ownership Service Order number, you can send your camera to any of the worldwide RED facilities.
